I think I’m a little late to the party on District 9, but something quite interesting is going on with the two teaser trailers. I recommend watching teaser 1 first and then teaser 2.
They aren’t very different, in fact the only thing that changes is a removed blur on a character’s face and an added translation to the what they’re saying. What makes it so fascinating is how much difference these little changes make. Teaser 1 is much more menacing; gives the movie (as a whole) an action/thriller feel. Where as teaser 2 is deeply psychological and makes the film seem more like a commentary on society.
When you think about it, that little change from teaser 1 to teaser 2 also changes the antagonist of the film. Is it us or them? Just another late-summer, sci fi throw away? I think not. Something deep is going on here.
