Trailer: The Other Woman - VOD Jan 1st, Theatrical Feb 4

Directed by Don Roos. Starring Natalie Portman, Lisa Kudrow, Lauren Ambrose, and Scott Cohen.

Yes another Natalie Portman movie. While I’m sure she shot all of these movies on a regular, elongated schedule it’s very odd that every single one of them seems to be coming out in a four month period. Total it’ll be Black Swan in December, No Strings Attached in January, The Other Woman in February, Your Highness in April, and Thor over the summer. It’s going to be a very Natalie 2011, hopefully at some point in there she’ll host SNL.

About the trailer. It’s a shame they had to change the title because “The Other Woman” is incredibly misleading. It sets the film up to be about infidelity and cheating when really that’s the inciting action. It’s about Portman’s character’s struggle as a second wife and step mom. Which is far more interesting and less cliche but the title doesn’t really fit. Otherwise while the trailer seems to give too much away it looks like an enjoyable if not heavy film with strong performances. Portman is taking on a heavy load here (bringing Nicole Kidman’s recent Rabbit Hole role to mind) and I’ mostly confident she can pull it off.
