Nothing’s set. Right now I can say for sure there is no Ghost Rider cameo or a scene where Ron fights a wolverine on a nose-diving helicopter. We’re either going to shoot the movie in 3-D or 1/2 D.

The sequel doesn’t start shooting until February but a special, brief teaser has been put together to trumpet the news team’s return. Rudd, Ferrell, Carell, and Koechner appear but Christina Applegate does not.

“It’s right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ‘78 or ‘79,” McKay explains. “All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”

  • Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay will produce for Paramount.
  • McKay will direct the script written by himself and Ferrell.
  • Steve Carell and Paul Rudd are set to return.

NEWS TEAM ASSEMBLE. There’s going to be a sequel to Anchorman.

As if the fact that Anchorman 2 isn’t happening wasn’t enough, there is new information coming from director Adam McKay today saying that it would have been awesome. As in, full-on musical awesome. “It was a musical,” McKay said today at the junket for his latest, The Good Guys. “We were going to do four months on Broadway and then jump right into filming.” And amazing idea, killed by the bean-counters at Paramount. No hard feelings, says McKay. I can’t say that the fan reaction will be quite some amiable. [CHUD]

For some reason [Paramount doesn’t] want to make it, I guess. I don’t know. I hope it’s one of those things that gets resolved because I think we’re all excited to [do it]. But if it doesn’t happen, we’ll just look to do ‘Anchorman 3. The second one’s never good anyway.
