Going back to the earliest days of whatevs (dot org), Saturday Night Live has been a key focal point of my interest. For many moons, I had the good fortune to give Nummer and H-Bomb a platform with which to share their unrivaled knowledge about the show with the world (check the archives here). But life gets busy and the two of them found themselves with other commitments, so we discontinued their SNL Season XX … REVEALED! recaps and patented Coney Ranking System™.
That said, I am still very invested in SNL and its place in popculturesphere. So, as a means of covering the show, I launched a new weekly recap over at Best Week Ever called the Saturday Night Live Power Rankings. Of course, I doff my chapeau in the general direction of Mark Lisanti for his inspirado; his Mad Men Power Rankings are just about the only thing that makes Mondays palatable.
However, my Power Rankings are a bit more quantitative in nature than Mr. Lisanti’s (and, admittedly, not nearly as funny). For every episode, I’m aiming to determine which members of the cast are the most valuable to both Lorne and the audience as a whole. To that end, I developed a 10-point scoring system (which you can read about, if you like) that judges the show’s performers based on two factors: their total appearances on the show and how they performed in them.
I realize that I have exceeded the attention span of Tumblr readers at this point, so I’ll close by saying this. Check out my SNL Power Rankings (of which Fred Armisen and Bill Hader are sitting at the top) and let me know what you think. Gratzi!
Solid.
