Eulogized this band of bursting-with-integrity gentlemen and spoke a bit about their Farewell Tour over at Billboard (article also features a link to a Spotify playlist of their setlist—well, actually, here ya go). Severely happy to have had the opportunity to enjoy this career in real time, then commemorate it with some words and thoughts. And to get to call their stunning final two albums “a pair of bold senior theses,” and later implement the phrase “clawed quadrupeds.”

Very psyched about my first story for Billboard. Say Anything’s new album is excellent, as was this chat with Max Bemis.
Excellent work by Zach. Interesting bits to glean:
- They used almost no distortion/effort to obtain “a Beatlesiness.”
- "There’s no point being on a major label and not having the ambition to sell as many records as, like, the Foo Fighters. It doesn’t mean that’s everyone’s priority on a major, but if you don’t at least have that as an ultimate sort of ‘that would be great if this happened’ goal, then you’re sort of naïve."
I got a ton of new followers last night, and I hope you enjoy my mix of Glee, queers and New York living when I don’t have exciting new interviews with Chris Colfer to share. For those new to the program — I interviewed Chris for the first time this summer when I worked for Huffington Post, so this is my first time talking to him for Billboard but second time overall. Aside from being a great human being, he’s also a great interview and very thoughtful and well-spoken. That makes me sound like a grandma, but I don’t care.
My favorite bit, because I am a social media professional and I am extremely invested in the idea of construction of fame and community in a digital age.
Twitter is such a very delicate device. You really have to watch everything that you say, and everything you say or everything you respond to can be taken out of context in any way or form. Every time I post a Tweet I have to read it four or five times with different points of view so it isn’t offensive or there isn’t anything suggestive or any kind of innuendo that I didn’t intend for.
Also, I know things will get pulled completely and reposted, or broken down into quotes and reposted. That’s awesome. But if you don’t mind also clicking the actual source, at least once, that would rule. Articles online are measured by traffic to them, not how many times they are loved on Tumblr (although that helps!)
