“I’ve got a wish list of people,” the singer tells the L.A. Times after it asked who should play him in the planned film. “No. 1 on my wish list is Justin Timberlake, because he played me before in a David LaChapelle video of ‘Rocket Man’ and was superb.”

John says the film will feature songs from his career and possibly a few new ones. Written by Billy Elliot scribe, Lee Hall, the singer describes the film as a “surreal” look at his life rather than a strictly factual account — much in the vein of Moulin Rouge. He also says they’ve found a director, though it won’t be Moulin Rouge’s Baz Luhrman.

They are teaming with Billy Elliot scribe and playwright Lee Hall on Rocketman, which they are calling a biographical musical fantasy that will weave together John’s life and his music.

Does that make her a fairy godmother?

Great, now I’m going to have Rocket Man stuck in my head all day.

A lot of bands say, ‘We don’t want our stuff on Glee.’ Like, ‘Lighten up, you a———.’

It was revealed last night that Elton John will host SNL on April 2 and will also serve as musical guest. The news was revealed at Elton John’s Oscar viewing party, held in Hollywood last night. The party included a live auction to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation and among the items offered was VIP access for two to SNL’s April 2 show and cast after-party, courtesy of Lorne Michaels. The winning bid came in at $75,000.

Screenwriter Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, Steven Spielberg’s upcoming War Horse) has been tapped to write a film based on the life of Elton John. John himself is approving the screenplay, and it sounds like it will be a much less traditional biopic than usual Hollywood fare. John had this to say when describing the project: “It will be more of a fantasy, Moulin Rouge type of stuff. Obviously, it’s not going to be your normal, run-of-the-mill film. My life’s been so surreal, from buying a football club to God knows what.”
