Wow. That’s some serious commitment for a show that’s not nearly as big as it used to be.

Glee cast sings “This Is The New Year” (by MrRPMurphyExclusive)

Well, they aired it, seemingly unchanged. And it’s now for sale in the US iTunes store. They also got in touch with my peeps to basically say that they’re within their legal rights to do this, and that I should be happy for the exposure (even though they do not credit me, and have not even publicly acknowledged that it’s my version – so you know, it’s kind of SECRET exposure). While they appear not to be legally obligated to do any of these things, they did not apologize, offer to credit me, or offer to pay me, and indicated that this was their general policy in regards to covers of covers. It does not appear that I have a copyright claim, but I’m still investigating the possibility (which I consider likely) that they used some or all of my audio. I’ll write something longer and more detailed about this when I can get my head together about it probably in a couple of days. Thanks for your support, but please continue not to burn anything down.
Jonathan Coulton giving an update on the ‘Glee’ “Baby Got Back” situation.

Fox teen musical show Glee will resume their fourth season on Thursday (1/24) and if you somehow end up watching, you’ll notice that they’ll be singing a cover of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” However, NYC geek rock fave Jonathan Coulton just tweeted that they ripped of his cover of the song without contacting him. You can stream Jonathan’s version and Glee’s version below… the similarities are pretty undeniable.

Probably the only time you’ll see Brooklyn Vegan and Glee in the same headline…

I like ‘Glee’ but their alleged swiping of small artists (Kiki viral choreogrpaher, Oregon Divisi, now this) is becoming a trend.

3. The best best best dude from The Sing Off is in the Apples I am so stupidly excited I can’t even deal.

This is great and all, but where’s the Aires’ lead singer. That dude had pipes.

Ryan Murphy recently said he sees the show lasting for four more years.

Four more years, four more years!

coreythedopest asked: I find it funny that "Pitch Perfect" would poke fun at "Glee". I mean, without the popularity of "Glee", they probably would never have made "Pitch Perfect". Not saying that "Glee" is a good show, but just an interesting aside.

This isn’t the only shot ‘Pitch Perfect’ takes at ‘Glee’ if I’m remembering correctly, and in the modern cultural landscape they do seem intrinsically linked (especially considering ‘Glee’ may have swiped a song from a real group featured in the ‘Pitch Perfect’ book).

But I’m not entirely sure the movie wouldn’t exist without ‘Glee.’ Just by the timeline, the book came out in 2008, Elizabeth Banks acquired the film rights to it a few months later, but Fox didn’t air a sneak preview of ‘Glee’ until spring 2009. Also, this genre of college-club movies isn’t new and you could argue that both ‘Pitch Perfect’ and ‘Glee’ draw inspiration from it.

That said, the popularity of ‘Glee’ probably made it easier for Universal to greenlight ‘Pitch Perfect’ in 2011. I mean, they both owe it all to ‘High School Musical’ anyway, of course.

Cause if this show needed one thing, it was more cast members.
