As you might have heard yesterday, next week is The Hobbit Week on The Colbert Report, as Stephen welcomes Sir Ian McKellan on Monday, Martin Freeman on Tuesday, Andy Serkis on Wednesday and Peter Jackson on Thursday. You might know them better by their respective Hobbit characters, Yoda, Voldemort, Sulu and Morpheus.
In the meantime, let’s prepare for the weeklong Tolkien-fest with some classic Middle Earthian moments from The Report. First up, click the gif to watch Stephen put the literary smackdown on fellow LOTR-head James Franco.
Obviously.
Next on James Franco’s list to tackle? Releasing a music album later this summer, Pitchforkreports.
The Oscar-nominated actor, one-half of Kalup and Franco with video performance artistKalup Linzy, is teaming with DJ /rupture to release a new EP. Linzy, is a video performance artist who often performs onstage in drag.
The act was created during Franco’s brief return on ABC’s General Hospital, when he invited Linzy to perform during his appearance.
Turn It Up from label Dutty Artz (co-founded by DJ /rupture), will be available as a digital download and as a limited edition 7” on July 12. The EP features “Rising (Both Sides Now)” and “Turn It Up (So We Can Turn It Out).”
DJ /rupture and Brent Arnold produced the album.
Starting May 8 and running for a week, he will direct and narrate a multimedia piece called Collage at the Stella Adler studios that features live dance, theater, music, and poetry
MORE THINGS! FEED FRANCO MORE THINGS!
Trailer: Rise of the Planet of the Apes - August 5th
Directed by Rupert Wyatt. Starring James Franco, Andy Serkis, Frida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, and Tom Felton.
As far as teaser trailers go (if this even is one), it’s pretty extensive. We get many a look at the apes and enough story to pretty much understand exactly what is going to happen in the film. I’m disappointed Lithgow doesn’t show up in the trailer, but at least Latika and Draco Malfoy do. I’m not entirely convinced by Franco as a scientist but we’ll see.
The apes look cool, but not any more impressive than that 2 second clip we saw previously (the shot at the very end). I also don’t think I’ve ever seen a trailer that boasts the effects studio that worked on the film. That’s a first.
