This might not be the Gatsby you remember from high school english class, but it’s surely the Baz Luhrmann you’ll remember from Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet. This spot is equally as stylized as those and relies just as much on modern, popular music, but there’s some undeniable je ne sais quoi that sells it. Though I expect the stylization to be a turn off to many.

Leo’s company “moved really fast” at the chance to secure Live By Night, a Prohibition-set tale of a Boston rum runner written by Dennie Lehane. Lehane is also known for penning Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone.
Warner Bros. has acquired the bestselling spy novel “Satori” by Don Winslow as a starring vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio.

The dream team that’s been assembled here appear to be delivering on their laurels as only this combination of talent could. It’s got the sweeping cinematics of Eastwood, and the committal of Leo, with the intrigue and depth of Lance Black. I’m probably biased as I was sold before the trailer, but I had no idea of the scope - hopefully they pull it off and attract the attention of the Academy they’re clearly aiming for.
