The creatively rebooted Fox comedy returned to only 3.1 million viewers and a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49, down 45 percent from last year’s debut. The third season return of companion comedy The Mindy Project had an even sadder story, with 2.8 million viewers and a 1.3 rating, down 32 percent.

I liked the premiere and thought it was overall funny and well balanced. I don’t think a creative renaissance will bring back viewers on its own though.

Ausiello reports that negotiations are continuing between Sony and USA over a revival of ‘Happy Endings’, but should they fall through Damon Wayans Jr. may return in some capacity to ‘New Girl’.

Poor Winston, bringing back Coach, even if just for an episode or two, would only further diminish his already lacking character.
