Megan Mullally: ‘Party Down’ Movie May Shoot Next Summer, May Have Financial Backing

While appearing on this week’s episode of Comedy Bang Bang, Mullally let slip a bit of information about the much-rumored ‘Party Down’ film. She stressed that nothing is official but they’re hoping for “next hiatus [spring or summer]” for production.

She went on to say that this hinges on them finishing the script and having it approved as well. More significantly though, after host Scott Aukerman followed up, Mullally said that she thinks the film is financed, “pending script approval.”

The ‘Children’s Hospital’ actor also went as far as to say that there would be, “some sort of mayhem” if the film doesn’t happen, as the cast is that enthusiastic about making it.

Adam Scott Says Production Company in Line for ‘Party Down’ Movie, Just Needs Starz to Sign Off

On the most recent episode of Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, the two briefly discussed the status of the would-be Party Down movie. Up until this point most have been skeptical, but Scott revealed to Maron that a production company is interested in doing a “low budget” version and that all they need is Starz to sign off on it. The Parks and Rec star also stated that the season two cast would be featured and was not sure about Jane Lynch’s involvement.

In June of 2007, we all got together at Rob [Thomas]‘s house in the Hollywood Hills and shot the first episode of Party Down. Because they were paying for it themselves, the pilot was shot on a shoestring budget. Between shots we all hung out in Rob’s bedroom getting to know each other and laughing a lot. I’ve found that doing something for fun and almost for free (we each got $100 for the day) can bring out the best in people. Plus, there’s nothing like undressing in front of folks you just met to inspire humility and togetherness.

Here’s his quote to The Playlist

We’re like 90% there, we’re hoping to do it maybe next summer, if everyone’s schedules work out and the guys get time to write a script… They have kind of a skeleton of a story worked out so we know where it’s going to go but we just have to kind of cross the t’s and dot the i’s, or something. But Starz are being super cool and they’re going to let us do it, and we’re all excited, we all want to do it.

I’m breaking my own Arrested Development/Party Down rule of not posting about it until it’s official, but this seems promising.
