Is it just me or are the waits between sequels getting shorter and shorter? Didn’t the first Sherlock Holmes just come out? Anyway this is a straight forward, mostly joyless trailer that is sure to perplex and enrage literature lovers the world over. I feel like, at least the trailer for the original provided a bit of light hearted humor, and here there are attempts but it feels forced. And the tag at the end makes no sense.
Warner Bros has closed a deal for an untitled musical comedy that will be developed as a potential star vehicle for Robert Downey Jr. The script and lyrics will be written by Brian Yorkey and the music will be composed by Tom Kitt. That’s the duo best known for the Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera Next To Normal, which won 3 Tony Awards, including Best Score. The musical opened last Sunday in Los Angeles at the Ahmanson Theatre I’m told that Yorkey and Kitt developed the idea with Anonymous Content’s Joy Gorman, with Downey and his Team Downey partner Susan Downey aboard to produce with Anonymous Content. The hope is for Downey—a gifted singer—to play one of two Broadway songwriters who find themselves creatively and financially bankrupt when their big-break musical is a huge flop. Searching for some inspiration for their comeback, they take jobs as counselors, teaching singing and dancing at the theater camp they attended as kids. Yorkey and Kitt were repped in the deal by WME, Downey by CAA.

Directed by Todd Phillips (Hangover, Old School). Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis.
RDJ is trying to make it across country for the birth of his child, Galifianakis is an aspiring actor that tags along. It’s a little odd for Zach G. to be playing someone flamboyant but he makes the character uniquely his own, and you can tell form the trailer. I don’t know if I like Downey as the straight man, but from the opening of this trailer he’s acting the hell out of it. Otherwise it most definitely looks like the spiritual sequel to The Hangover the studio hopes it will be and should bring in the money. Regarding the trailer, I think it’s very well made and atypical. The scenes are great as are the titles and the editing. Ace job.
