He’s baaaaack. I cannot tell you how much joy this trailer brings me, despite its more slapstick-y, silly, referential jokes (you’ll know them when you see them). It’s good to know that Sacha Baron Cohen is still out of his mind and completely game to go there. Wherever ‘there’ may take the character he’s dreamed up.

Clearly this character looks nothing like the one posted last week. Is it possible Cohen is playing multiple rolls or is this the titular Dictator shaved down and Croc’d up?

The film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. It is inspired by the best selling novel, Zabibah and The King, by Saddam Hussein
Whether Cohen will be engaging in his candid camera antics or if this is a straight feature remains to be seen, but Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno) will once again be behind the camera. The film is also set to star Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, and Jason Mantzoukas (The League). Hit the jump to check out the photo of an All-American foreign dictator. Larry Charles is set to direct Sacha Baron Cohen’s newest film The Dictator. The film is written by Cohen andCurb Your Enthusiasm writers Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel.
This will be Charles’ third directorial outing on a Cohen project, having previously hit box office gold with the hilarious Borat, and the less hilarious Bruno. According to 24 Frames, the film will be Cohen’s next project after Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret. Hit the jump for my thoughts and more info on the film.
The Dictator was picked up by Paramount back in April when they made a very generous offer to Cohen. Paramount was bidding against Sony and other studios for the rights to the film. Paramount ended up winning the rights after sending two goats wearing Paramount shirts to Cohen and his talent agency, WME.
Cohen will reportedly play two roles in the movie: a goat herder (hence the goats from Paramount) and a deposed foreign dictator who gets lost in the United States. On first glance it seems to already have more layers than Bruno, and that could only be a good thing.
