I know Videogum is supposed to be ironic and clever but can you really resist the genuine awesomeness of Bryan Cranston snowboarding.

Be sure to bring your checkbook to Sundance on Sunday. Because director Kevin Smith is publicly auctioning off the rights to his religious horror film, Red State, according to Variety. Smith has been talking about this for months, and it seems he’s serious. The film’s producer, Jonathan Gordon, told the trade that a deal will be made for the $4 million film before they leave the theater. Red State is scheduled to screen at 6:30 Sunday at the Eccles Theatre and then the bidding will begin. Out in the open. While a church-group protests outside. And a pro-Smith group protests that protest. No wonder tickets alone were going for $400 on eBay.

Can’t wait to see how this turns out. It will either be a remarkable new way of doing things or a huge disaster. Gotta hand it to Smith though for knowing how to build buzz.
