Called Afterlife, it’ll be about an atheist who dies and goes to heaven. Gervais won’t star, but he’ll have a cameo role.
The plan is to shoot next year. No development deal is in place yet. Also, Ricky Gervais is an atheist.
Maron announced on his podcast this week that he recently wrote, produced, and starred in a scripted TV pilot based on his popular WTF Podcast.
Sounds to me like he got the ever elusive “Louis-CK-deal.”
The filming went down last week at his home and around his neighborhood. Television comedy icon Ed Asner plays Maron’s father; rising comedic voices like W. Kamau Bell and Sean Patton co-star– not to mention Seth Morris, Matt Jones, Erin Daniels and Trimbur.
The script was written by Maron and Duncan Birmingham.
The studio in charge is Fox TV Studios and Apostle (headed by comedian Denis Leary and Jim Serpico) is the production company, and the show is executive produced by Olivia Wingate and Serpico.
The show was shot as a presentation. It’ll likely be at least a month before we know if the show will proceed to the next step.
Variety says that Melissa Rosenberg is the writer and exec producer on AKA Jessica Jones, which is being developed for ABC’s fall 2011 schedule. The deal isn’t fully set, but the trade says the show is likely to beat out the new Hulk as Marvel’s first show for ABC. Brian Michael Bendis, who created the character with artistMichael Gaydos, will consult on the series.
Jones is a “superhero turned investigator.”
