I don’t know if anyone’s seen this yet, but my college’s website released it. [source]
1. Glee spoilers sorry.
2. GOTHIC LOLITA OMG.
3. The best best best dude from The Sing Off is in the Apples I am so stupidly excited I can’t even deal.
This is great and all, but where’s the Aires’ lead singer. That dude had pipes.
Sing Off.
Thanks for all the amazing support that Sing Off fans have showed the last couple of days.

I was part of the show because I feel it represents something very real that’s been happening for some time now in the background of the music scene. A cappella music. I can’t think of anything more pure than people just singing together. The talent has been overwhelming and was showcased with dignity on our show. I’m proud of that. I know it’s nerdy as hell. I don’t give a damn. It moves me. It represents the best of people. In a cappella music you have to work together. It’s not diva driven, it requires skill and there’s no safety net. On top of that, it cost nothing to open your mouth and sing. Seems like a winner.
The Sing Off is obviously not in the fall lineup on NBC. That’s all we really know. That is the absolute right of the network and we should all respect that. They helped grow this show from the beginning.
If you remain vocal about the show, we’ll be more able to do what it takes to get it going again.
I believe The Sing Off was and will be a significant bit of television, an outlet for unique talent, a good example for students and an alternative to a Star Trek convention. I love the groups we had on and I’ll continue to support them as well.
Thank you, good night and God bless.
Over and out.

By the way, this happened. The Sing Off’s cancellation is by no means surprising (the ratings were pitiful), but I’m still sad to see it go. At least we had 3 years there where there was nationally televised, prime time contemporary acappella singing. There’s no way I would have believed that to be possible when I first started following the genre in 2001.
Check out Lady Danville’s new music video for Better Side that I was casting director for. These guys are awesome. They met in acapella groups at UCLA and have gone on to open for Ben Folds, Guster and more! Fans of The Sing Off and Glee take note!
Underrated in 2011: If you follow this blog you’re familiar with my adoration of The Sing Off. As well as its piss poor ratings. In the event that it doesn’t come back next year, I’d like everyone to know that it held a musical standard far above most, provided killer performances, and delivered true family entertainment.
The Sing Off: Ben Folds and the Dartmouth Aires Perform “Not the Same” | NBC
As far as results go, The Sing Off had one of the more satisfying (and predictable) finishes in reality television. Even if most of the results show performances were out of tune.
That said, the above performance (which Folds does live with thousands) was, for me, the highlight of the night. You watch.
One more parting thought on The Sing Off. In the greater landscape of reality singing competitions, this season specifically was truly special - in terms of talent and “wow” factor. It certainly rivaled some of the best Idol has ever put forth. Due to ratings, it likely won’t be back in the same capacity, if at all, but we can at least hold onto the time when we got 12+ weeks of prime time a cappella nationwide.
Ben Folds and Sara Bareilles duet on “Baby It’s Cold Outside” as part of last night’s Sing Off Holiday special.
For years, I’ve heard Wolverines and Buckeyes, Bulldogs and Gators, Tar Heels and Blue Devils say horrible things about the quality of people who attend their rival schools, and I never really understood it. Now I do.

How does The Sing Off trend globally on Twitter but then only manage 4 million viewers and a 1.3 rating?

Jed Gottleib for the Boston Herald about The Sing Off Bah, I wanted to write an article exactly like this. Basically, The Sing Off is the music competition show you should be watching because it’s, well, about music and features more talent in one group than entire shows have to offer total. (That said I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s demoted to a holiday special again next year or doesn’t return at all.) |

Good on NBC for hiring YouTube sensation Tsui, whose name I just found out is pronounced “chewy.”
