The Film Stage has uncovered a myriad of images (70+) from The Tree of Life. The website has since taken them down due to objections by the studio, but they’re still up on The Playlist. Hurry over to check them out! They’re kind of sublime.

Trailer: The Tree of Life - May 2011

Written and Directed by Terrence Malick, starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain.

The Tree of Life is about a father and his son in the 1950s and the man that son grows up to be and how must reconcile their relationship. Film School Rejects describes it as a combination of Stand By Me and The Fountain, I’ll also add Revolutionary Road and Benjamin Button. There’s very little story to be gleaned here, instead it’s all about mood, ambience and visual - which is not a bad thing - especially considering how evocative the imagery is. With all the mediocre trailers coming out for early 2011 movies, this was a breath of fresh air.
