Ben Folds’ 13-year-old daughter wrote a review of her dad’s album on iTunes
Best of luck Dad! This is a really good album, the best you’ve put out in recent memory. I hope the rest of the world realizes and appreciates the long hours and hard work you put in. Love you so much and good luck in Atlanta tonight.

I was part of the show because I feel it represents something very real that’s been happening for some time now in the background of the music scene. A cappella music. I can’t think of anything more pure than people just singing together. The talent has been overwhelming and was showcased with dignity on our show. I’m proud of that. I know it’s nerdy as hell. I don’t give a damn. It moves me. It represents the best of people. In a cappella music you have to work together. It’s not diva driven, it requires skill and there’s no safety net. On top of that, it cost nothing to open your mouth and sing. Seems like a winner.
The Sing Off is obviously not in the fall lineup on NBC. That’s all we really know. That is the absolute right of the network and we should all respect that. They helped grow this show from the beginning.
If you remain vocal about the show, we’ll be more able to do what it takes to get it going again.
I believe The Sing Off was and will be a significant bit of television, an outlet for unique talent, a good example for students and an alternative to a Star Trek convention. I love the groups we had on and I’ll continue to support them as well.
Thank you, good night and God bless.
Over and out.

Ben Folds Five is back: The piano-rock legends, last heard from around 2000 (though the namesake has been busy), has a new song called “Do It Anyway” as part of their planned reunion. Whaddya guys think?
Nice!
Check out Lady Danville’s new music video for Better Side that I was casting director for. These guys are awesome. They met in acapella groups at UCLA and have gone on to open for Ben Folds, Guster and more! Fans of The Sing Off and Glee take note!

Underrated in 2011: If you follow this blog you’re familiar with my adoration of The Sing Off. As well as its piss poor ratings. In the event that it doesn’t come back next year, I’d like everyone to know that it held a musical standard far above most, provided killer performances, and delivered true family entertainment.
The Sing Off: Ben Folds and the Dartmouth Aires Perform “Not the Same” | NBC
As far as results go, The Sing Off had one of the more satisfying (and predictable) finishes in reality television. Even if most of the results show performances were out of tune.
That said, the above performance (which Folds does live with thousands) was, for me, the highlight of the night. You watch.
One more parting thought on The Sing Off. In the greater landscape of reality singing competitions, this season specifically was truly special - in terms of talent and “wow” factor. It certainly rivaled some of the best Idol has ever put forth. Due to ratings, it likely won’t be back in the same capacity, if at all, but we can at least hold onto the time when we got 12+ weeks of prime time a cappella nationwide.
