The writer of the original film, Jessica Bendinger, and the WGA have filed against the musical for exploiting the rights to the series without Bendinger’s consent nor compensation.

Take a lesson from “Star Wars”: you can have all the resources in the galaxy at your disposal, and sometimes the little guy still prevails. In this case, that little guy is Andrew Ainsworth, a British artist who helped design the stark, almost featureless costumes worn by the villainous storm troopers in George Lucas’s original 1977 space-adventure movie, and who has won the right to sell replicas of those costumes without permission from Mr. Lucas or his studio, Lucasfilm.

Last time I checked parody is not infringement, so good luck MacGyver creators, I’m sure your lawyer will be happy to accept the check.

Obama has appointed an IP Czar to strengthen the nation’s copyright laws. A “czar” really? I know that the czars were ousted by Communist Russia, but the connotation the word brings is all too convenient.

Love Drunk vs Somebody Told Me

This sort of thing happens all the time, there’s only so many combinations of notes in western music. I don’t think Boys Like Girls intentionally ripped off The Killers but unfortunately they wrote a melody that is very similar. I doubt The Killers will take legal action, I’ve heard a lot worse in terms of copyright infringement.
