J.J. Abrams releases part 2 of that mysterious trailer | EW
Posting this link again as I totally missed the second part where Badass Digests suggests Abrams may be leaving ‘Star Wars 7’. Just a big rumor for now, but of note nonetheless.
Speaking of losing jobs… why is it that I keep hearing tons of rumors that JJ Abrams is on the verge of dropping out of Star Wars? This has been something I’ve heard for a while now, and from multiple insiders. I know that he didn’t want to shoot the movie in England and was overruled, but that happened a while ago. This weekend at Comic Con I continued to hear these whispers. No director for Trek 3 has been found yet - might Abrams end up coming back after all, leaving Star Wars to someone else? I’m expecting Star Wars news out of the German Star Wars Celebration at the end of the month - if there is some sort of announcement of a title or casting and Abrams isn’t there, start wondering.
What’s going on here.
What J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars’ Will Look Like: Everyone, Meet Leilicity | Hollywood.com
gosly asked: I appreciate how up-to-date you're keeping the Star Wars/J.J. news. What do you think about the idea of a J.J. Abrams Star Wars movie?
(That said, I think it will be good because he’s immensely talented. That said that said, I’d like to see him do one and then let someone else do it — and then for Disney to keep it rolling with rotating directors. Also, I feel bad for ‘Star Trek’ fans, because it’s kind of a slap in the face.)
J.J. Abrams will direct the next “Star Wars” film for Disney, taking stewardship of one of Hollywood’s most iconic and lucrative film franchises, an individual with knowledge of the production told TheWrap.
“Argo” director Ben Affleck was also in contention, another individual with knowledge of the talks told TheWrap.
Take this with a grain of salt for now.
Nikki Finke has corroborated The Wrap’s report with a source of her own.
More details per /Film, some of which back up the female-lead notion.
Our sources have been telling us for a while now that Steven Spielberg was really pushing Kennedy to hire Abrams. The story goes that Abrams was the first filmmaker approached after Spielberg, but was very hesitant. Kennedy talked to other directors including Ben Affleck and also Matthew Vaughn who may have pitched to have Chloë Grace Moretz in the lead role. Our sources say that Spielberg was instrumental in convincing Abrams and Kennedy to make it happen.
Fringe Theme (full)
While reading /Film’s reporting on the directors taking meetings for Wicked, I learned that JJ Abrams himself composed the title theme music for many of his shows, including Fringe, Alias, Lost, and Felicity. Wild.
JJ Abrams, you sneaky, cheeky bastard.
In a piece of casting news likely to induce nerdgasms the world over, Variety reports that Robocop star Peter Weller has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel.
Weller is the latest star to join the cast, following in the footsteps of Alice Eve, who was added to the existing ensemble last week. The news comes in the wake of a new casting twist, in which Abrams has put a question mark over the involvement of Benicio Del Toro…
