Universal Pictures Stage Productions has hired the Barenaked Ladies to write the music, Michael Mitnick to handle the libretto, and Casey Nicholaw (co-director and choreographer of The Book of Mormon) to choreograph and direct. Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and James L. Nederlanders are producing, along with original Animal House film producer and founding publisher of National Lampoon magazine Matty Simmons.

I like the Barenaked Ladies and think they were a good choice for this but in general, do not want. And you just know it’s going to have “Shout” in there. Ugh.

The “Saturday Night Live” star is refusing to do a reprise and tells THR she is working on something else with writing partner Annie Mumolo.

No, this is so very, very bad. It’s all that’s greedy and wrong with the Hollywood system. Why can’t they just let a good movie stand for what it is. Hire Wiig and Mumolo to do a different film and bill it from the ‘creators of Bridesmaids.’

A sequel to Bridesmaids without Wiig would call for a mass boycott and I hope the rest of the cast would be smart enough (and loyal enough) not to sign on.

Let Me In

Terrible. Not only does it give away a significant reveal in the movie, it’s cheesy as hell, awfully photoshopped, and not nearly as good as the poster without her.

David Goyer/Christopher Nolan + Chris Columbus. Does not compute.

Another slow-ish news day, another rumor. The rumor du jour is that, while David Goyer is interested in directing the new Superman film being assembled over at Warner Bros., the studio has someone else in mind. Reportedly, WB’s idea for the best Superman director is Chris Columbus.

Stop it. Just stop it.

Glad they’re calling it a “germ” because that’s really what it is.

TV.com wants big screen transfers of Dollhouse, The Shield, The West Wing (umm isn’t The American President the movie version?), 30 Rock, and It’s Always Sunny.

While they give good reasons for each, sometimes TV should just stay on TV. There is something special about the medium that lends itself so well to these shows and their characters. Outside of Dollhouse, I can do without a movie from any of these.
