Sherlock Series Three is over, and Series Four is waiting in the future. But in the meantime, to tide us all over in the hiatus, something exciting is coming later this year.

SHERLOCKED, the first ever official Sherlock convention dedicated to our favourite BBC series, will take place in…

The conversation around Sherlock after the third season’s premiere in the UK and leading up to the US premiere this Sunday, January 19th, can best be summed by this post from the BBC One Tumblr: “Tumblr, are you okay?”

Gif source (x).
From January 1st to the 14th alone, there were 720.9k posts made about Sherlock by a community of 2.6 million Tumblr users, earning 63.6 million notes. That completely blows away any of the other communities we’ve looked at on Tumblr; the conversation around fashion earned 23.7 million notes over the course of a month, or nearly a third fewer notes in two more week’s time.
This is a dedicated fandom, to say the least, and Sherlock fans might be giving Doctor Who fans a run for their money in terms of engagement. (Although we must note there’s a lot of fan crossover and even fandom collisions on Tumblr).
The majority of the top Sherlock posts were images, and many of those gifs (the one at the top of this post was the 7th most popular post overall in that two week time period). Fan-made gifs expressing their emotions around the third series premiere, art based on the characters’ lives, and mashups with the actors’ other work also featured in the top ten posts.
So bbcone? Tumblr might be a little wobbly right now, but we have faith they’ll pull themselves together through the power of fandom.

Probably.

'Sherlock's Watson isn't gay — but he's not straight either

John Watson insists to Mrs. Hudson that he is “not gay” after she is surprised to hear that Watson is planning to propose to his girlfriend.
Watson has made this clear several times in previous episodes, and I believe him, I don’t think he’s gay. Everything I’ve seen suggests a genuine physical and romantic attraction to women, including his new fiancée, Mary Morstan.
But what bugs me about Watson’s response to Mrs. Hudson is the pretty glaring reality that he does love Sherlock and wants to spend his life with him.

Expect at least one more figurative gift under the tree this holiday season.

The hit BBC show (which comes back next month) is Amazon’s current two-hour lightning deal.
