Michae Riedel, in an article about the wheel spinning of Harvey Weinstein’s Finding Neverland musical, revealed that La Jolla’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar, directed by Des Macnuff, will transfer to Broadway in the spring of next year.
The NY Post columnist mentions it will play the Neil Simon Theater.
Coming soon to Broadway: lots o’ Jesus. I wonder if this has anything to do with the popularity of Book of Mormon?
As an aside, Superstar is my all time favorite musical (I know) though it is typically not highly regarded and despite numerous revivals has never been a huge hit on Broadway.
Fear not, this isn’t a musical. It’s the straight play version written by the same guy that actually preceded the Oscar winning film.
